MST3K: Episode 415 - The Beatniks

I'm watching all of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes in order. More about that here and here.

Episode 415: The Beatniks

First aired: Comedy Central on 19 September 1992
Availability: iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Amazon (Volume 17), Shout Factory (Volume 17), Best Brains (Volume 17)

Not "The Boatniks"
This one was one I never saw until I bought it. I don't remember ever seeing it when it aired 15 times on Comedy Central.

I've seen it multiple times since I bought it, though. I have the iTunes download as well as the DVD from the four-pack.

It's a bad move -- which goes without saying. But it's fun. The riffing it very good, and the Host Segments are fun.

This one starts with another segment from General Hospital. Long-suffering Nurse Jessie and her low-life doctor hubby are entertaining guests and serving the worst-looking cake in television history. Thankfully, a phone call breaks up the festivities.

Lois wants to move!
The move? A young hoodlum who can sing gets a once-in-a-lifetime break to become a recording star. His buddies screw it all up. The end.

My buddy Max was particularly enthralled with the performance by the late Peter Breck -- best known as Nick Barkley on The Big Valley -- who "act(ed) like a crazy asshole continuously. On that level, he exceeded expectations."

The songs are bad, the acting is mostly bad, the dialog is bad ... hey, it's a bad movie.

Pocket pool.
Joel plays pocket pool.

Think about that for a minute.

No, wait. Don't. Really. Don't think about that. Because ... well, you know...

But, yeah, Joel contribution to the Invention Exchange is Pocket Pool. So, to demonstrate the game, Joel plays pocket pool ... complete with green felt underwear, pool balls, and a pool cue.

So, no, it's not what you think. But yeah, Joel plays pocket pool.

He's good, too. Didn't scratch once.
