MST3K: Episode 807 - Terror from the Year 5000

I'm watching all of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes in order. More about that here and here.

Episode 807: Terror from the Year 5000

First aired: Sci-Fi Channel on 15 March 1997
Availability: MST3KVideos.com fan copy

Terror!
Remember Star Trek: Deep Space Nine? The one that took place on the space station? Started kinda slow, but hit its stride in its third season? Wound up being a better Star Trek than Star Trek: The Next Generation?

Yeah, that Star Trek series.

In DS9, remember the shape-shifters, the Changelings? Odo was one. At first, they thought he was the only one, only, it turned out that there was a whole race of them in the Gamma Quadrant. They were the mysterious Founders who waged the war that lasted several seasons.

Terror from the year 1958,
There was the female changeling that we saw a lot. She was officially an ambassador or liaison to the Alpha Quadrant, but was actually kind of in charge, at least as far as we could tell, because she was pretty much responsible for everything.

That female changeling was in this movie. Salome Jens played the title role, as well as the nurse killed by the title character. She was a virtual unknown at the time this film was made. She got noticed on Broadway a few years after this. Left this turkey off her resumé, no doubt.

The Terror From The Year 5000 kills the pervert.
Some scientists attempting time travel or something end up exchanging trinkets with people from the year 5000, so the lead scientist sends a statuette to a buddy scientist of his, but it turns out to be highly radioactive, and carbon-dates in negative years or something, so buddy scientist goes out to the time travel scientist's island and hits on the scientist's daughter, much to the displeasure of the daughter's boyfriend, who is the lead scientist's assistant, but the assistant boyfriend ends up using the machine to accidentally bring a woman from the year 5000, but she's all glittery and radioactive and ugly and ends up killing the pervert handyman that looks like Jimmy Carter, then kills a nurse that looks like Salome Jens, then explains the plight of her world to the boyfriend who takes pity and attempts to go to the future and spread his DNA around but he ends up killing himself and the sparkle girl. The end.

The movie is odd and poorly done. Some of the actors are okay, but not all of them. The script? Definitely MST3K-worthy.

We get treated to a song by the Observers, which actually is pretty fun.

The fight to the death between Pearl and Bobo is silly, but what else should be expected?

A pretty good episode. It's a shame the copyright holder of the film is either asking too much for want allow this episode to be released. It's worth if for the sheer badness of the film. The riffing and Host Segments top it off.
